In April 2019, Matt released his '13-Bit Funk' looper, the follow up to the original '12-Bit Funk' and 'More Funk' loopers (released in October 2015 and July 2016 respectively).

'13-Bit Funk' showcased a selection of beats in Matt's signature style which, when sequenced back-to-back, comfortably amounted to a beat tape - and a damn fine one. I urged him to release it as such, but he was not to be swayed, insisting that it had always been intended to be a looper and he had no wish to see it released as anything else.

Determined to get the tracks out there in some other format, I asked whether he would mind if I tweaked them a bit so that they would get heard by a wider audience than solely those who utilised them as beats to scratch over.

He agreed, and what we now present is the fruit of said tweakery.

Armed with the stems from the looper beats, I dismantled them, chopped them up and generally crafted them into something that took the original beats as their point of origin but which ended up being something quite significantly different.

Not entirely me, but not entirely Matt either, it seemed fitting, then, that this release would bear the name that is the axis of us both - a true Beatwood FLAC outing.
